Repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/19/us/politics/19cong.html?_r=1&hp

On Saturday, the Senate voted to repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' by a vote of 65-31. Then they sent it to President Obama, who signed it. This repeal with allow gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military.

Over 12500 service members have been forced to leave the military since the ban was created in 1993. Why we would our military would turn away eager, able-bodied men in the middle of a war is beyond me. Why does it matter who they love? This is a country built on the concepts of freedom and understanding and acceptance of people who are different than ourselves. If they love our country enough to risk their lives for it, why should we not only turn them away, but try to limit their freedom?

I think that this repeal is a necessary and long over due step towards the freedom and equality that America has alway promised.

  1. Bravo to our country for moving forward in our cultural growth toward acceptance of others... whomever the others happen to be. Somehow I always feel we are each better for it!
