Bone Garden by Tess Gerritsen

Wow. I think that is the one word that describes this book best. It was not only a thrilling story, but it was a beautiful specimen of writing. On of my friends commented that, based on the cover, it looked like a very boring book. They could not have been more wrong. Tess Gerritsen weaves together two very different tales to form one unforgettable book.

In present day Boston, Julia Hamill is trying to beat the garden, of the house she just bought, into submission when she makes a discovery. The soil behind her house has been the home to a skeleton for over a decade. Driven to find out who this woman was, Julia joins forces with some unusual people and learns some things about herself along the way.

In 1820’s Boston it is a different story. Rose is out on the streets trying to keep her newborn niece alive when it seems that more than one person wants them dead. Norris Marshall is also having his problems. He goes from being a medical student at a prestigious university to being the lead suspect in the case of the West End Reaper, who slices open the victims abdomen in the shape of a cross.

As Rose struggles to stay alive, Norris tries to prove his innocence, and Julia sorts through documents to find out who her skeleton was. As the book progresses the stakes get higher and the game more deadly. Bone Garden is full of twist and turns and will keep you guessing until the very end.

cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude."
